Why I love the movement

Mick-Whelan.pngI love unions and the labour movement because they stop ruthless businesses from treating their workers like slaves and paying them as little as they can get away with. Trade unions stand for human dignity and the common good and help make the world a better and more equal place.

The link between the trade unions and the Labour Party is a unique and precious relationship. It ensures the voice of working people is heard in parliament and across the political landscape. The link has also helped shape Labour’s policy agenda including the party’s pledge to bring the railways back into public ownership.

It is increasingly necessary that the trade unions, the Labour Party and civil society continue to fight for social and industrial justice. That’s why we must all join the campaign against the Trade Union Bill to help protect democracy and to protect our labour movement.
