What are the changes? At a special conference in 2014, the Labour Party in partnership with the trade unions agreed changes to the way in which individual trade unionists have their say in the Labour Party. Under existing rules, if your trade union was affiliated to the Labour Party you would automatically, as a trade union member, have a say in the direction in the Party – giving you a vote on the leadership and a say at conference.
Now under changes agreed, individual trade-unionists now have to agree to sign-up individually to become what is now called a “trade union affiliate supporter”.
What do I get out of it? If you become a “trade union affiliate supporter” it will give you the opportunity to vote in the leadership election and, if you live in London, for our London Mayoral candidate. It also gives you the chance to get more involved as the union will keep you up to date with campaigns which may be of interest to you.
How much does it cost? For trade union supporters whose union is already affiliated to the Labour Party, it is free to sign-up and have your say. If your trade union isn’t affiliated it will cost £3.
