North West candidates for Europe
North West Labour Party members have selected 8 candidates to stand for Labour in the European elections this June.
Arlene McCarthy MEP
Since January 2006 Arlene has been Chair of the European Parliaments powerful Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. She is the first Labour woman to Chair a co-decision committee in the European Parliament. Arlene is also a member of the Legal Affairs Committee. Through her role on these committees she has developed an active interest in, amongst many other policy areas, consumer policy and protection issues, the creative and media industry and better regulation. She is a key children’s rights campaigner and has worked closely with the NSPCC on legislation to protect children from paedophiles on the Internet. Read more…
Brian Simpson MEP
Brian was a Member of the European Parliament since 1989, but lost his seat in the 2004 Elections only to be returned to the European Parliament in September 2006. Before becoming a Member of the European Parliament, Brian was a Teacher. Read more…

Steve Carter is 45 years old and married with two children. He was born on Merseyside and has lived most of his life in the North West. Steve is a member of the Cooperative Party and of the NUT and GMB trade Unions. He set up the Cheshire in Europe organisation to campaign on European issues. Read more…
