Mary Lockhart was fortunate and privileged enough to be born into the Labour, Trades Union, and Co-operative movement.
She was educated at Dunfermline High School and Edinburgh University as well as through the WEA.
In a varied career, she has served as an army officer, co-ordinated an Unemployed Workers’ Centre, worked in the arts, been a journalist for The Herald, The Scotsman and The Sunday Times and a Media and Public Affairs worker for Scottish Women’s Aid.
She has also driven a passenger ferry, and worked as a cleaner and care worker.
She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, of Unite the Union, the Co-operative Party, Compass,and the Campaign for Socialism, not to mention a plethora of Arts organisations.
She has served on the Scottish Executive of the Labour Party, and is currently a member of the Scottish Executive of the Co-operative Party.
