Minimum Wage bill on hold

The Tories’ bill, which threatened to get rid of the Minimum Wage, has been put on hold.

Following a successful campaign in Parliament on 15 May, where Usdaw’s John Hannett teamed up with John Prescott and many outraged MPs, Christopher Chope MP postponed the controversial bill until 12 June.

The Wage Concern campaign, organised by Usdaw and John Prescott’s Go Fourth campaign, will continue, with supporters of the minimum wage encouraged to add their names to the petition at www.wageconcern.com

John Hannett said:

“If this bill was passed, it wouldn’t just affect those people on the minimum wage, but it would drive wages down across the board. This is clearly unacceptable. We will continue to campaign in support of a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.
