Extending Car Scrappage Scheme good news for steel

The announcement of the extension of government’s car scrappage scheme to an additional 100,000 vehicles is good news for the steel industry said Community Union. The announcement, made by Lord Mandelson at Labour Party Conference on Tuesday will inject an additional £100 million into the scheme.

Community Union General Secretary Michael J Leahy said:

“Extending the scheme is good news for Britain’s motorists and better news for the struggling steel industry. This boost to demand will help secure jobs and shore up order books.

“The success of this scheme has been a much needed life line for the steel industry and extending it into 2010 will provide further support to our members and their industry.”
