Candidates for the Deputy Leadership

What is the Election for?

The election is for the Leadership & the Deputy Leadership of the Labour Party. These posts have been held since 1994 by Tony Blair MP & John Prescott MP respectively.

Tony Blair will remain as Leader of the Labour Party & John Prescott will remain Deputy Leader until the new Leader & Deputy Leader have been chosen at a Leadership Conference on Sunday 24th June 2007.

How does the election work?

Every member of the Labour Party, affiliated socialist societies & affiliated trade union members who pay into their political fund will receive a vote in the election.

The vote will be conducted on a preference basis and so members can vote for their first choice, then second choice, etc.

Labour MPs & MEPs have one third of the vote, Labour Members have one third of the vote & socialist society/affiliated trade unionists have the final third of the vote.

Trade union members who pay into their political fund will receive their ballot papers from their union from Wednesday 6th June 2007 onwards. If you do not receive your ballot paper or you need to ask any questions please visit the help section below to find out what to do.

Once the ballot closes and all the votes are counted there will be a Leadership Conference to announce the results of the election.
