Leadership candidate
Candidates for the Deputy Leadership
The election is for the Leadership & the Deputy Leadership of the Labour Party. These posts have been held since 1994 by Tony Blair MP & John Prescott MP respectively.
Tony Blair will remain as Leader of the Labour Party & John Prescott will remain Deputy Leader until the new Leader & Deputy Leader have been chosen at a Leadership Conference on Sunday 24th June 2007.
Every member of the Labour Party, affiliated socialist societies & affiliated trade union members who pay into their political fund will receive a vote in the election.
The vote will be conducted on a preference basis and so members can vote for their first choice, then second choice, etc.
Labour MPs & MEPs have one third of the vote, Labour Members have one third of the vote & socialist society/affiliated trade unionists have the final third of the vote.
Trade union members who pay into their political fund will receive their ballot papers from their union from Wednesday 6th June 2007 onwards. If you do not receive your ballot paper or you need to ask any questions please visit the help section below to find out what to do.
Once the ballot closes and all the votes are counted there will be a Leadership Conference to announce the results of the election.
Every affiliated Trade Union is able to make a supporting nomination for a candidate for the Leadership & Deputy Leadership of the Labour Party.
Your union will be meeting before the deadline of friday 1st June, to decide which candidates, if any, the union wishes to support.

TULO & the affiliated trade unions will be holding 3 Hustings events around the country, so that trade union members will be able to ask candidates questions that are important to working people.
Your union will be contacting those members who live in the area where the Hustings events are due to be held.

Newcastle on Sunday 3rd June
London on Wednesday 6th June

If your ballot papers have not arrived, if you need a replacement ballot paper or if you have any questions about how to vote please contact your trade union. The telephone numbers to call for each union will be listed below once the ballot papers begin to be distributed.
