At the last three General Elections, in 1997, 2001 and 2005, each Regional TULO Committee appointed volunteer union activists (normally full time officers) to co-ordinate trade union support for 'Key Seats' (the more marginal Parliamentary constituencies).
The role of these voluntary Key Seat Co-ordinators was to link the Regional TULO Committees to the areas of greatest need electorally, allowing them to allocate regional trade union resources strategically. The coordinators were also tasked in the 2005 election with recruiting extra volunteers from local trade unions.
In the 2005 General Election TULO appointed 188 Key Seat Coordinators in 165 Key Seats.
Over the coming years, TULO will be looking to make the KSCs network a more ongoing structure. If you are interested in becoming a KSC, then please go to the volunteer page and register. TULO will then be in touch with you when we begin the process of appointing KSCs for elections.
